For enden af det magiske bjerg ligger den problemfyldte by Jadur, som bliver hersket af den onde troldmand Alquazar (Christopher Lee) I en grotte dybt inde i bjerget ligger Alquazars hemmelighed, månens spejl og åndens slave.
Kaliffen ønsker at blive den totale hersker, men han behøver magien fra den legendariske Rose af Elil som den venlige Alquazar ll fortæller ham kun kan tages af en god og ærlig helt. Sådan en mand ankommer til markedet i Jadur, i det øjeblik hvor Alquazar er ved at dæmpe en oprører imellem indbyggerne ved hjælp af en hvirvelvind. In Jahbor, rebels plot the overthrow of the evil Caliph Alquazar (Christopher Lee). When news of the revolt reaches Alquazar he retreats to a secret cavern, and watches in his Magic Mirror as the rebels prepare to attack the curfew guard. The Caliph casts a spell that causes a tornado to tear through the city, and the rebels are caught in its devastating wake. Alquazar gloats over the extent of his power until the voice of his own soul, kept in bondage by an evil spell tells Alquazar that he will never have supreme power without holding a talisman known as the Rose of Elil, which can only be touched by one pure of heart.
Alquazar decides that he must have it and offers the good Prince Hasan the hand of his beautiful step-daughter Zuleria, if he can retrieve the rose. Hasan departs on a flying carpet with an orphan boy, Majeed, who possesses a magic sapphire. Before they can get to the rose our heroes must defeat genies, dragons and other forces of evil...
